The Tamil Nadu Offshore Wind Pre-Feasibility Study, developed under the FOWIND project, assesses the potential for offshore wind energy development along the Tamil Nadu coast. The study identifies eight potential offshore wind development zones using wind resources, technical, environmental and spatial constraints. It evaluates key aspects including wind resource, turbine suitability, energy production, foundation and geotechnical conditions, electrical and grid infrastructure, installation and port requirements, operation and maintenance, project costs, risks, and environmental and social impacts. The study also recommends further LiDAR-based wind measurements, site-specific feasibility studies, logistics and infrastructure assessments, grid connection studies and stakeholder engagement to support future commercial offshore wind development in Tamil Nadu.
