National institute of wind energy is an autonomous R&D institution established by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India in 1999 to serve as a technical focal point of excellence to foster the development of wind energy in the country. The Governing Council (GC) with 12 members is the policy making body of the institution and Secretary, MNRE is the ex-officio Chairman of the GC. The Director General is the head of the institution and the Division Heads assists him.
