As part of the training course, Course Material was released and distributed to all the participants, faculties and guest, which is a compilation of the write - ups of all the presentations / lectures collected from the lecturers specially prepared for this course for the benefit of the participants as a ready reference material.

There were 17 presentations scheduled during the course, which were handled by 12 NIWE Engineers and 5 external experts from wind turbine industry.

The following topics were addressed during the training course:

  • Introduction to wind energy technology and its status
  • Wind resource assessment and techniques
  • Wind turbine technology and components
  • International standards on wind turbines
  • Type certification of wind turbines
  • Installation and commissioning of wind turbine
  • Wind farm developments and related issues
  • Wind turbine testing & measurement techniques
  • Forecasting of renewable energy generation
  • Grid integration of renewable energy
  • Operation and maintenance aspects of wind farms
  • Solar Radiation and Resource Assessment
  • Offshore wind energy
  • Economic analysis of wind power development
  • Environmental aspects of wind turbine technology and wind energy policy

The Renewable energy facilities available in the NIWE Campus were showcased to the participants for practical exposure, wherein they had an opportunity of understanding about the Wind, Solar Resource Assessment set up, and how the Hybrid System (Wind - Solar - Diesel works.

The participants were taken to Technical & Safety Training Centre of M/s. Vestas Wind Technology India Private Limited located at Nellikuppam, Chennai, where they had a chance of seeing all the components of wind turbine and the experts trainers explained the working principle of the components along with the troubleshooting techniques.
