Global Wind Day Celebration 2022

Global Wind Day is a worldwide event that is supported by Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) jointly with the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) on June 15 every year. It is a day for discovering wind, its power and the possibilities it holds to change our world. In more than 100 countries around the world, wind farms are in operation, generating energy from a clean and renewable source. Thousands of individuals are involved in the production of energy from wind, but for many people, wind energy is a mystery. The day started as a European one in 2007 and went Global in 2009. On 15 June, hundreds of public events are organized all over the world, to create awareness on Wind Power.

India has set a target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel based electric power capacity to be commissioned by 2030. As per the report on Optimal Generation Capacity Mix FOR 2029-30 issued by Electricity Authority (CEA) in Jan 2020, a cumulative capacity of 140 GW is estimated to be added from wind energy. As on May, 2022 India has already achieved 40.6 GW installed capacity of wind power and is ranked fourth globally in terms of installed capacity. National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), established in March 1998, is the technical focal point for wind energy in India has contributed through its technical support in terms of resources assessment, standards, testing, certification and performance assessment, skill development etc.

The Global Wind Day celebration along with Silver Jubilee of National Institute of Wind Energy and IREDA-NIWE Annual Awards Ceremony was held on 15.06.2022 in the Auditorium, Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan, Lodi Road, New Delhi.
