23rd International Training Course on Wind Turbine Technology & Applications
for ITEC Countries held during 30th January - 1st March 2019

The 23rd International Training Course on "Wind Turbine Technology and Applications" for ITEC Countries was successfully conducted by the SDT Division of NIWE, Chennai during 30th January to 1st March 2019, sponsored by DPA - II division of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India under ITEC programme. The Course addressed all aspects of Wind Power starting from introduction to wind and its technology, wind resource assessment, installation and commissioning, operation and maintenance aspects of wind farms in a focused manner along with financial and policy aspects. The course was attended by 28 participants from 16 ITEC countries, Afghanistan, Cote D'Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Guyana, Malawi, Mauritius, Mongolia, Morocco, Myanmar, Nigeria, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Togo & Uganda.

The training course was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Shri. P. K. Ashok Babu, Head of Branch Secretariat, Regional Passport Office, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, Chennai.

The course content of the training were handled by Engineers of NIWE along with professionals from Wind Turbine Industries, Utilities, and Premier Academic Institutions, who have years of experience in the field. During the 31 days course, 43 classroom lectures were held apart from practical training, study visits to wind farm and wind Turbine manufacturing factory. The general practical training with Wind Resource Assessment, instrumentation, Testing & R&D equipment’s was also organized.

The participants were taken to southern part of Tamil Nadu to visit Wind Turbine Test Station and Wind Turbine Research Station at Kayathar, where they got exposure on small and large wind turbine testing process apart from visiting wind farms in and around Kayathar, Thenkasi and Kanyakumari, where various capacities, models and makes of wind turbines are available.

The course structure and organization of training was highly appreciated by the participants. The participants were very much satisfied by the quality of lectures, practical training, study visits and hospitality provided by NIWE, Chennai, India.
