24th International Training Course on "Wind Turbine Technology & Applications"
Specially for ITEC Partner countries
held during 23rd October - 19th November 2019

The SDT Division of NIWE, Chennai has successfully conducted the 24th International Training Course on "Wind Turbine Technology and Applications" during 23rd October to 19th November 2019, sponsored by Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India under ITEC programme. The course addressed all aspects of Wind Power starting from introduction to wind and its technology, wind resource assessment, installation and commissioning, operation and maintenance aspects of wind farms in a focused manner along with financial and policy aspects. The course was attended by 28 participants from 18 ITEC countries, Afghanistan, Argentina, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ethiopia, Guinea, Iraq, Kenya Morocco, Nigeria, Russia, Senegal, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Turkmenistan, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

The training course was inaugurated by Dr. K. Balaraman, Director General, NIWE in the presence of Shri. D. Lakshmanan, Deputy Director General and Head, F&A, NIWE and the Course Coordinator, Dr. P. Kanagavel, Director & Head, SDT Division, NIWE on 24th October 2019.

Release of Course Material

During the 28 days course, 41 classroom lectures and 7 practical at different laboratories were scheduled apart from study visits to wind farm and wind Turbine manufacturing factory. The course content of the training were handled by Scientists, Engineers of NIWE, wind turbine manufacturers and academic institutions, who have years of experience in the field.

The participants were taken to southern part of Tamil Nadu to visit Wind Turbine Test Station and Wind Turbine Research Station at Kayathar, where they got exposure on small and large wind turbine testing process apart from visiting wind farms in and around Kanyakumari and Thenkasi, where wind turbines are installed in large numbers in different capacity, make and models.

The course structure and organization of training was highly appreciated by the participants. The participants were very much satisfied by the quality of lectures and hospitality they found in NIWE, Chennai, India.
