26th International Training Course on
"Wind Turbine Technology and Applications"
Specially for ITEC partner countries
held during 01st - 24th February 2023

The SDT Division has successfully conducted the 26th International Training Course on "Wind Turbine Technology and Applications" during 01st to 24th February 2023, sponsored by Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India under ITEC programme. The course addressed all aspects of Wind Power starting from introduction to wind and its technology, wind resource assessment, installation and commissioning, operation and maintenance aspects of wind farms in a focused manner along with financial and policy aspects. 29 participants attended the course from 20 ITEC countries, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Iraq, Kenya, Lesotho, Morocco, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, Peru, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Tajikistan, Trinidad & Tobago, Tunisia and Uzbekistan.

The training course was inaugurated by Dr. Rajesh Katyal, Director General (Additional Charge), NIWE in the presence of Shri. J. C. David Solomon, Director and Head, Measurement and Testing Division, NIWE and the Course Coordinator, Dr. P. Kanagavel, Director & Head, SDT Division, NIWE on 01st February 2023.

During the 24 days course, 31 classroom lectures and 6 practical classes were scheduled apart from study visits to wind farm and wind Turbine manufacturing factory. The course content of the training were handled by Scientists, Engineers of NIWE, who have years of experience in the field.

The participants were taken for a factory visit to M/s. Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy Pvt. Ltd., Mamandur, where they had a chance of seeing the wind turbine nacelle assembling and other connected equipment with respect to wind turbine from the industry experts who are actually in the field.

The participants were taken to the southern part of Tamil Nadu to visit Wind Turbine Test Station at Kayathar, where they got exposure on small and large wind turbine testing process apart from visiting Gearbox Workshop at Elecon Engineering Company Limited, Thirumangalam, Operation and Maintenance of Wind Turbines at Speed Team Infra Private Limited, Tenkasi and Centralized Monitoring Station at Suzlon Global Services Limited, Thattaparai.

The valedictory function was conducted on 24th February 2023. Dr. P. Kanagavel, Course Coordinator enlightened the gathering with the course summary by highlighting the activities of 24 days of the training. Also the feedback given by the participants was summarized and consolidated. The toppers in the assessment conducted were also displayed during the presentation. Thereafter the participants were asked to share their views about the training conducted. Some of the training participants shared their feedbacks and were emotional by quoting that NIWE had a very dedicated team of teaching professionals/faculty and had done the excellent team work. They had also well commented about the hospitality shown by everyone at NIWE, adding that the organizing team had to be disturbed during late evenings/night to help the participants in some way or the other.

The course structure and organization of the training was highly appreciated by the participants. The participants were very much satisfied by the quality of lectures and hospitality they found in NIWE, Chennai, India.
